Teacup Tuesday Queen Elizabeth II By Shelley for her Birthday, Report on Daughter In Law

Happy Teacup Tuesday, and Happy Official 85th Birthday Queen Elizabeth II! Which will be offically celebrated on Saturday, June 11, 2011.

This is a coronation teacup by my favorite manufacturer done Shelley, China done in 1953 with one of the best photos authorized for use on coronation china. The photo was taken by Lord Snowdon, Anthony Armstrong-Jones, the Queen's favorite photographer and husband of Princess Margaret. For more info and to see the cup and saucer & other royal commemoratives at Antiques And Teacups click on the photos.

Queen Elizabeth actually celebrated her 85th in April on Maundy Thursday where she gave out the traditional Maundy Money to deserving poor, a tradition dating back to the time of Edward The Confessor.  Queen Elizabeth II has marked this day associated in the Anglican Church with the Last Supper by giving our a money gift of special Maundy money to as many men and women as her age. This year she gave out Maundy coins to 85 men and 85 women.

The Queen's official birthday celebration is always celebrated on one of the first 2 Saturdays in June because the weather is usually better. This year it's on this Saturday, June 11, 2011. I am posting today because our son and daughter in law fly in tomorrow from Utah and will be staying until Sunday so I didn't know if I'd get to post this.

Traditionally a part of the Queen's official birthday celebration is the Trooping Of The Colour which the Queen has participated in since the age of 12 and presided over since her coronation in 1953. Until a few years ago she was always on horseback riding sidesaddle, but the last few has ridden in the State Landau.

For more information about the Troop[ing of The Colour, it's origins and several videos of previous occasions including her famous bit of horsemanship when shot at in 1981, visit these great websites:

For a progress report for those of you who so blessedly prayed for my dea daughter in law...she is well enough to come visit!!!! We are taking the ferry from Bainbridge Island into Seattle tomorrow morning when they have flown in to SeaTac and taken the Light Rail into downtown. Then back across to Bainbridge on the ferry and on to the West End of the Olympic Peninsula an hour past our home in Sequim. All Casey wants to do is get to a beach with breakers and she is a Twilight fan so we are taking her to Forks, Rialto Beach, First Beach, Kalaoch and the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park.

The final...they think...diagnosis was an especially bad case of mononuecleosis that masqueraded as all sorts of things. That was finally decided after 2 preps & anaesthesias for heart surgery begun then called off, scans, spinal taps & you name it. Sigh.... But we are rejoicing we get to see her!!! Because of my husband's Parkinson's disease we can no longer travel to Utah to see them, so WE CAN'T WAIT! So posting this week will be scanty at best. Have a great week visiting the wonderful blogs and here are some I am joining for Teacup Tuesday.
Cheers!
