Tuesday Cuppa Tea With A Vsit To Looe Cornwall, IT's IT!

Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea! It is  Labor Day weekend...the last 3 day weekend of the summer, and although forecast rain has been lovely for our daily walks.

I am happy to report that temperatures are back to normal here...and we continue to pray for the rest of the country dealing with storms and flooding. Goodness! So many impacted!

I found this English mottoware breakfast cup and saucer recemtly, that is definitely on a lighter note, and so I used it to put together a tea time yesterday.

I love motto ware, which hails from Devon, England and was developed in the mid Victorian era. The items have wonderful folk wisdom, proverbs and sometimes otrageous sayings...always fun...

The items were often made as souvenirs for local towns, and this breafast cup...is not advertising the potation Beer, but the town Beer in Devon.

The motto scratched in this one is the proverb Masters Two Will Never Do.

There are a couple of traditional designs always used, and this has the traditional cottage on the front. On the saucer is a landscape design in slip of trees, also traditional.

Although it is difficult to see, the maker of this is one of the most famous makers...Watcombe Pottery, Torquay Devon...one of the better know potteries, which started in the 1860s, survived both the first and second world wars, but dwindled despite combining with another mottoware pottery Aller Vale, closed in the great potteris death in 1962. This cup and saucer has their 1920s mark. Cool, isn't it?!

We have spent a lot of time in Devon and Cornwall over the years, and September was our favorite month weatherwise. I  thought I'd add to my tea this original watercolor of a favorite place, Looe, Cornwall we bought at a local artists' gallery in another small Cornish town called Polperro, a few miles from Looe and Devon.

We paid 18 pounds in 2001 from the artist, and it hangs on a wall in our bedroom normally. We went often to the area after, but I never found another I liked better.

We spent 2 visits at the St. Aubyn B&B above...a lovely place on a bluff overlooking the bay by Looe. The owner was also a golfer like my husband, and always took him to play on the local links course...which if you know golf means rough and hard! I would either lounge outside or the conservatory at the house or walk down the hill shopping and browsing tin the town below...the following are various photos I took of the town on our visits...

We often stopped at the small kiosk on the quay below for the jacket potatoes...

The town had a lovely harbor with a bridge separating East and West Looe....

And here is one of the places we got Cornish pasties at a local pub called Ye Old Sail Loft...huge!   And below...the other of our favorite pasty shops...

This is the lane I came down from the B&B on...don't remember the name now, but quite steep and very scenic! We spent a lot of time just enjoying the 2 Looes!

But back to my tea...I chose this Twinings Organic Breakfast Blend tea, because we usuall went to England on the Queen Mary2 one way, and this was the tea always served onboard the ship. A nice, strong lovely blend of black tea.

Playing cards bought on Queen Mary 2 for spare moments of soltaire...
For a look at more of Queen Mary 2 from our vyages on her, you can find a post here from May 21, 2015:

I have not baked this week...and this is why: I found a package of a no-no dessert I haven't had in years called It's It from the San Francisco area where I grew up. A chocolate covered ice cream sandwich.  We are rationing ourselves and have no other sweets or baked goods while these are in the house!

If you see any...they are awesome! Probably won't have them again for 10 years! Not exactly healthy, but...yummy!  And that's my confession for the week! Glad you joined me, and I hope your are enjoying your holiday! I am joining:

Here is the linky for your tea related posts...please remember that it is SSSLLLOOOOOOWWWW but if you are patient...it's there! And I love to read your comments, and I do read every one if I can find and can get to you to visit!  If you comment from Google+…it isn’t easy...so forgive me if I am not replying to comments you so kindly leave...I am trying!

  1. I loved visting Looe Cornwall via your blog. Almost like arm chair traveling .
I do the same thing with goodies in the house - not bake or buy more until it is all gone.

  2. I always enjoy your tours of England, Ruth! Your "Beer" cup is cute. This is the first time I've heard of "It's It" and I would definitely love to try this yummy ice cream sandwich. Thank you for hosting and Happy Labour Day!

  3. Ruth, you take us on the most delightful tours of England! I can only dream of the spectacular scenery and the goodies one can indulge in over there. I have never heard of It's It but if they're anything like those old fashioned ice cream sandwiches, then they would be good. Thank you for sharing with us and have a lovely week.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  4. Ruth, I paired my cake with Darjeeling tea, but none of the photos with tea in them turned out well. I love your watercolor of Looe. Looe is of interest to me because our friends' daughter married a young man originally from Looe, and they've visited there a number of times and have told us of its many charms. So I really enjoyed your photos and travel notes.

  5. I hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend! I enjoyed your photos of Looes. England is such a beautiful place! I'm curious as to whether you've ever had any condensed milk holders in your collection, such as the one I've featured in your blog party today, as well as on my blog.

  6. I have 3 little pieces of Torquay pottery and I love them. They were my mother's, but I have never seen any other pieces.

    Thanks for sharing with SYC.
