April Has Entered The Building...

Or at least here in rain soaked Washington State...finally...

It took them long enough this year! And the advent of April reminded me to check my favorite Country Diary Of An Edwardian Lady...

Which I love to do each month. So, the other afternoon, cup of tea in hand, I sat down to visit the now vanished rural Warwickshire, England...where my and my family and my husband is from...of the Edwardian era...through the watercolour drawings of a talented lady...

This is a sepia photo of the author and artist Edith Holden. Due to the glossy dust jacket, it didn't photograph well...

Among the drawings are collections of poetry, folklore and interesting facts and observations that took her fancy...April was named for the Greek word meaning "opening"
"When daisies red and violets blue
And cuckoo-buds of yellow hue
And Ladie's Smocks all silver white
Do paint the meadows with delight"

April weather, rain and sunshine both together

When April blows his horn
'Tis good for hay and corn

With paintings of emerging butterflies , blossoms and plants...

I love the swallows here...

What a talented artist and observer. Especially precious as the things she saw as so familiar have largely disappeared. The book always seems to leave me with such a feeling of peace, with a little nostalgia for lost times thrown in.

And from a visit last year at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival...which opened yesterday here is the 2014 poster, and pictures I took before a storm hit....it is Washington State, after all...

I love this photo of the TulipTown shuttle tractor with the clouds and mountains in the background. An annual treat for us here by Seattle.

I am joining the following blog parties...including Pink Saturday, so here's my pink! Have a great weekend!
