Tuesday Cuppa Tea Summer Glory And Autumn Enters

Autumn blessings to you...and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

Thank you to all you dear blogging friends for your thoughts and prayers. I finally have defeated the sinus infection and avoided having to take antibiotics.
Thanks to lots of teas...herbal, green and black...nasal rinses, probiotics, zinc, echinacea and being strict about my allergy non dairy diet, I am finally well again. I haven't had a problem like that for 6-7 years. But, then, we haven't had wildfire smoke like that here before. That finally cleared out with some rain.

I finally felt well enough on Thursday to have a little tea time in the sunroom,
mixing last elements of summer and autumn things as the season definitely has changed here...we are in the 40s in the morning...

I needed something with a bit of color for a back ground, so added a polychrome transferware charger I have...

The pattern is called Rural England. I love the mill and stream and the flower border...

The plate was made in the 1930s by Midwinter. Midwinter was acquired by Wedgwood in the early 1960s, and did some great mid century modern designs in their Stylecraft line...very groovy, and very different from this earlier design. If you have visited the blog often, you know Wedgwood has gone through several shuffles and is now owned by the Danish firm Fiskars...always interesting keeping up with the potteries...

This teacup is where my end of summer comes in...the Hydrangea patterned Summer Glory Chintz by Shelley...you knew I get a Shelley in here somewhere...

This Summer Glory teacup is from the 1950s, and is the ivory colorway...which I have never thought a good name for the color, but...
the interior is pale yellow. I would call it a pale peach or apricot, but that's just my opinion. The pattern number is 13648, and it is in the Ripon shape.

And we need at teapot, so here is a 1950s Sadler pale yellow and gold large teapot....

This one has rather fancy gold flowers with heavy gold outlining. Cool! Lots of tea for everyone!

And for the tea...Republic of Tea's Cuppa Cake Tea Caramel Vanilla...a flavored black tea that is a lovely dessert tea...

I have other teacups for you...this is a teacup trio with an autumn leaves design called Windswept...

The bone china pattern is 1950s as well, with pink and grey green swirling leaves. The set is by Tuscan made by Plant. Later marks from the late 1960s-1970s use the name Plant Tuscan. The company has had it's share of changes, as all English potteries have. It was amalgamated into Wedgwood in 1972, and then permanently closed in 2006. I think Fiscars has all the patterns, etc, but whether the name will ever be resurrected is doubtful.

For a trea for tea, I have some Maple leaf shaped chocolate cream biscuits. During the couple of weeks prior to becoming ill with the smoke, we had friends visit and spent a day in Victoria, BC so brought home these biscuits...a favorite.

They are delicious! But since I was avoiding dairy, they have been sitting there languishing. So, now that I am recovering I hope to be eating them soon!

Also in Victoria, BC I found this little cookbook by a Victori author called Sarah's Tea Time that I will be sharing more from another time, by Sarah Amos.  Sarah is a Brit now living in Victoria. Besides lots of recipes it includes her lovely tea time drawings. Charming!

Thanks so much for joining me for tea today. It was so nice to finally feel able to join you all and welcome you all to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

Tuesday Cuppa Tea Happy Birthday Ma'am! 91 Years Old!

Happy 91st birthday to Queen Elizabeth II...

born April 21, 1926. Not everyone has 2 birthdays to celebrate, as her national birthday is celebrated on June 21st...better weather.

My Tuesday Cuppa Tea is a royal one in honour of Her Majesty's birthday, but no treats today as there are too many lingering Hot Cross buns and other Easter related goodies for me to make anything birthday like. Got to try to maintain our health...sorta! Lol!

The Union Jack bunting is from the Silver Jubilee in 1977. We were in England for our usual month, and I bought this for our home here in the US.  The photo you have seen before...one of my favorite coronation photos from 1953.

The tea tin is from the 1977 Silver Jubilee as well....and, of course, a few royal commemorative pieces for tea drinking...first a Shelley China from the coronation in the Cambridge shape...they made several coronation design shapes...

Then a Tuscan coronation teacup with another of my favorite designs...

Moving farther back, a Shelley China, England 1911 Silver Jubilee mug made for Queen Elizabeth's grandparents King George V and Queen Mary...

And farther back, and teacup by an unknown but skilled Staffordshire potter made for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897...a record only surpassed by Queen Elizabeth recently as the longest reigning English monarch...

I had to have some tea treat, so have a few petit fours left from a frind that I can share on my lonely Shelley coronation saucer...the cup was broken when we shipped it home from the UK, but I decided to keep the saucer...maybe I'll find a mate...

And the tea is Twining's 90th Birtday tea, blended in honor of Queen Elizabeth;s 90th birthday last year. It's a lovely black tea blend, so I hope they keep making it. I really like it, and this 3rd tin I've had is getting empty...

Shall we all sing Happy Birthday???
Happy Birthday Ma'am and many more!

Tuesday Cuppa Tea - Storm Looming Here, Shelley Trees And Leaves Teacup, Pumpkin Scones

Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

I usually space working on my post throughout the week, but this week has been a total derailment of plans. We had the last of the tests for my husband which took several hours, and we have been under a storm warning for two days for the approaching restrengthened Pacific cyclone or typhoon Songda which is to start hitting us today, Thursday, with the eye now tracked to pass directly over us on Saturday evening with 85 mile an hour winds and up. They are forecasting it to be one of the 5 worst storms in Washington history.  Oh goody! You hurricane folks know what it's like, but the last one here was in 1962. So...thought I would repost from 2012, because we are still preparing, and it has started to rain heavily. At least 5 inches forecast by Saturday evening..splish, splash!

Just an update...we were spared the worst...Saturday evening/night it wobbled left out to sea a bit and so we just had 30-45 mph winds and 2 inches of rain. Praise God!

Leaves are everywhere, so I was prompted to share this marvelous art deco era Shelley China, England tea cup and saucer with a fall and leaves design called Tree On A Hill With Leaves, or somtimes Tree With Autumn Leaves.

The cup and saucer is actually a demitasse or smaller teacup, but it was also made in a regular size, and you can't tell the difference just by a photo.  The cup and saucer was made between 1933 and 1945, and I love the deco handle and shape.  This art deco shape is called Regent, and wasn't made for very long.

Such an autumn design!

I wanted to share this seasonal recipe I found in Tea Time Magazine, a favorite publication....Pumpkin Scones With Maple Butter. I love the way the cream is served in mini a pumpkin! I have made these and they were wonderful, but don't have photos...forgot to photo them before they were gone!

Pumpkin Scones

2½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
½ cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground allspice
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 cup canned pumpkin
Maple Butter (see Download for recipe)

• Preheat oven to 425°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Set aside.
• In a large bowl, sift together 2¼ cups flour, sugar, baking powder,
salt, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg.
• Using a pastry blender or fork, cut the butter into the flour
mixture until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add the egg and
pumpkin, and stir until just combined. Add additional flour, if
necessary, until mixture forms a loose dough.
• Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and roll to
¾-inch thickness. Cut into 12 (2¼-inch) rounds. Place on prepared
baking sheet.
• Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly golden. Transfer to
wire racks to cool slightly.
• Serve warm with Maple Butter.

Well I am certainly hoping the forecasts are wrong, and we are just fine, but I am scheduling this post early just in case. They are telling us there will be widespread power outages and other problems, so....here are some blog parties I hope I will be able to join!
