Veteran's Day, Remembrance Day

One hundred years ago, November 11...
at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918...
the Armistice was signed officially ending World War I

Remembering those who sacrificed so much...it was to be the War To End All Wars...
Wish it had been so...

Although we have set aside Monday, November 12th as a day of remembrance here in the US, in Europe...and especially England... today, November 11th is Remembrance Sunday, which culminates a Week Of Remembrance, with gatherings and commemorations all across the country.

To those who have or are serving...
thank you.

  2. Lovely post, Ruth! We here in Canada also celebrate Remembrance Day today, November 11th. We generally follow England in traditions and holidays which is nice. My father-in-law went overseas in WW2 and he lost a brother over there as well as some comrades. Not many of the vets like to talk about it. My father-in-law didn't and wouldn't. Too painful, no doubt. It is a day to stop and give thanks to God for our freedom while remembering all those soldiers who sacrificed everything to give us a free country to live in. We wear our poppies with gratitude for a couple of weeks before and leading up to November 11th. Lest We Forget!

  4. At work, we have a Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov 11th. Since it fell on a weekend this year, the ceremony was held on Friday.
