Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Potpourri Of Things....Royal And Floral

Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea! There is so much going on, it was hard to decide what to post...so this is a potpourri of items.

First of all I am remembering those who have given so much to ensure our freedoms...not just at Memorial Day, but always....Thank You!

Also remembering that May 24, 1819 was Queen Victoria's birthday...namesake of the Victorian era I am so fond of...

My tea time in my sunroom today, features a brown transferware teacup, an inherited hand made lace runner from my grandmother, lemon bars and some Fairmont Organic Breakfast tea....

My teacup today for Tuesday Cuppa Tea is an English ironstone brown transferware teacup in the Charlotte pattern from the 1920-1930s....

The design was made for the Royal Staffordshire pottery and reported to be a design by Clarice Cliff who was famous for her Bizarre art deco designs...she was an art director at Royal Staffordshire when this was manufactured.

I have chosen it for it's royal connections...but more about that later.

I love the flower basket design. The pattern is actually one that you will see versions of on a number of different versions and makers...Clarice Cliff seems to have taken it with her when she moved to Royal Wilkinsons, and it was made in 4 colors and a polychrome...means multi color...transferware that I know of....easy to mix and match.

The tea is the Organic Breakfast I get whenever we stay at a Fairmont hotel, or go to Victoria, BC Canada, a short ferry ride away, for a visit...I love the complex flavor. Very nice! I had just mail ordered some when I got an email that the Cirque du Soleil is performing in Victoria next weekend, so we are taking a short break for that...if I'd know, I'd have waited to get my tea until then. Ah well....

The lemon bars are the normal thing everyone has a recipe for, so I am not including one...this is a recipe from the cookbook my parents gave us among our wedding presents 41 years ago....

Back to my teacup choice, Charlotte, this week...the Telegraph posted this copy of the new Princess Royal's birth certificate, which I thought you might like to see...Her Royal Highness Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge....fun!   I have English bone china photo mugs ordered for the birth for Antiques And Teacups, but they won't arrive until July....we do still have a few Prince George mugs and tea towels available...

I found this fabulous pink baby carriage CAKE by Rosebud Cakes...maybe it was for Charlotte's birth?!

The baby was named for Queen Charlotte Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of George III...

These paintings are from the Royal Collection...the family group is by Zoffany painted around 1730 and the painting of Charlotte a few years earlier....She was said to be a very hands on mother with many children...15 to be exact!...and a patron of the arts, a botanist and responsible for Kew Gardens. There is an interesting theory that she had some mixed blood...curly hair was not appreciated at the time, so I'm in trouble!....because of her relations in the Portugese Royal family which did have a black branch...a 13th century relationship of a queen with a Moor who was possibly black, but who knows...or really cares....

The Duke and Duchess and the royal babies have moved to Anmer Hall, on the Queen's Sandingham estate, a Georgian house that has been undergoing restoration since their wedding....If you want to see more about the home and restorations, here is the article I took the photos from on the Daily Mail website...just click on the 2 photos....

And lastly...I posted these last week when I found them on the Interflora.co.uk website...the Royal Flower Show at Chelsea was last week, and this exhibit by the florist was a tea lover's dream...titled "Time For Tea"...to see more photos, the link is below....

  5. You included so many wonderful things in your post. It's been years since I've been to the Fairmont in Victoria and glad to learn about their organic breakfast tea. That tea would make a nice gift for tea lovers. The teacup display at the Flower Show is amazing! Looks like something out of Alice in Wonderland. Beautiful brown transferware teacup. Nice to know a bit about the teacup's artist. Thanks for hosting!
