Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Strawberry Time!

Hello and welcome to another Tuesday Cuppa Tea for June! And a glorious June it has been so far!

It is definitely early summer here in the Pacific Northwest...proven by the opening of the strawberry fields in town. That was the inspiration of my teacup post today.

This is one of my favorite teacups in a pattern called Strawberry Time that was made by Royal Grafton, England between 1957 and 1961. I love the shape...and I love strawberries! For more info on the teacup at Antiques And Teacups...click on the photos...

The pattern number is 2121. It is such a breath of summer sweetness!

Strawberries are an early summer essential around here. We drove the 2 miles to the coast last week to a U-Pick organic farm called Graymarsh Farm here in Sequim...

You can see the Olympic Mountains of Olympic National Park, still with some snow field. The other photo looks to the water of the Strait of Juan De Fuca.  It was mid week, and early in the day, but we weren't the only pickers....

A little later...next moth in fact, the Graymarsh U-Pick lavender opens up, the week before our annual Sequim Lavender Farm Faire, but the crop is turning purple nicely...

Then it was time to slice, sugar just a bit and serve with a homemade non dairy angel food cake...

Sometimes we serve it with the non dairy coconut ice cream I get at our organic market. Yummm! Or...sift a bit of powdered sugar over them. Sugar shakers, sugar casters or muffineers have been used for several hundreds of years for that. Here is a tin one from England in the 1970s...

or maybe you would prefer a ceramic sugar shaker by S. Radford's, England from the 1930s? All are little bits of culinary history.

This is one of my favorites because it is so funny...a Wales souvenir muffinneer...the eyes are "googly" eyes and move around as the shaker is used....

I hope you can get fresh strawberries where you are...they are truly red gems of early summer!  Thanks for joining me!  We are still out and about, so I may be delayed getting back to your comments, but...I'm coming!

Below is the list of some of the blog parties I will be part of and there is the linky for your tea related posts...please remember that it is SSSLLLOOOOOOWWWW but if you are patient...it's there! And I love to read your comments, and can find you to visit!

  1. Ruth, we had similar weekends as I also went strawberry picking and will post about it next week. What a beautiful setting for the strawberry farm. I have never heard of a lavender u-pick farm and would love to go to one. The scent must be amazing! Never seen sugar shakers before either. They would be fun to collect. Thanks for sharing your teacup too. I have one with a similar design. So perfect for summer! Have a great week. ~Nora

  2. Hi Ruth,
I love all things strawberries, and your teacup is a beauty. There's nothing better than strawberries and angel food cake, in my opinion. Thank you so much for the views of the strawberry and lavender fields, and the Olympic Mountains, and for hosting. Have a wonderful week!

  4. What lovely fields of lavender and also the strawberries! We haven't any of those here. I love the taste of the fresh berries. One year in Missouri I took my family and we picked. They were quite tart though for some reason I never figured out. That is a pretty cup and saucer you are selling.

  5. The Lavender Farm looks really pretty. And the strawberries looks really delicious. Funny that I live close by strawberry farms when I was young and thought nothing about berry picking. Now I am longing to taste that adventure like you did ~ picking my own berries. That will be in my bucket list for sure :-) And what a lovely tea cup that matches this occasion so perfectly!

  9. It doesn't get much better than fresh picked strawberries from the field. The scent of lavender is a close second. I hope to pick/harvest both this season.

  12. I like the strawberry teacup, perfect for this month - and I picked berries myself yesterday morning.
I have a stainless steel shaker that I now know has a name -I use it for icing sugar (powdered) or is it intended for a fine grain white sugar? Either way, I like the name muffineer.

  13. Hi Ruth! The strawberries look so yummy--both the real ones that you picked (how cool to pick strawberries with mountains in the background!), and the lush ones on that beautiful teacup! Thanks for hosting, and have a great week :)
