Trip To Victoria, BC and Cirque du Soleil

Well, as you may know from my previous post, we were scheduled to go to Victoria, BC Canada for a Cirques Du Soleil performance of Varekai...found this "poster" online....

But weren't sure we would make it because of an infection my husband had...but the antibiotics did their job and he wanted to go...

We traveled over as walk on passengers on the car ferry the Coho run by Black Ball Ferries from Port Angeles, 15 miles away which lets us off in the Inner Harbour, right across from the  Empress Hotel...

And it was a gorgeous day! We had a late breakfast at our favorite Hotel Grand Pacific, a rest, a snack at the Steamship Grill and headed to the Sav-On-Foods Centre uptown for the performance.....

We got there a bit early, and went in and found our seats for our 4pm performance...this is the stage set from where we were seated in the Club section on the floor, or because it's a hockey stadium, on the ice...

The performance started....sort of an Icarus or forest creatures story....with a bird falling to earth...

and then after about 10-15 minutes... it stopped...they announced technical difficulties, be patient....

we waited 40 minutes...they began again...10 minutes later, they stopped and cancelled the performance because of the technical problems....sigh...to rebook for another performance or get your refund, you had to go to the outside windows and wait, and by the time we got outside the main doors, the time was almost 5pm and it was around 80 degrees, and in the sun...with lines with hundreds in line already...the show seated 2500....so we went to a White Spot restaurant we know of a block away, had a nice meal...we were planning to go after the show anyway.  After dinner, we walked back to the arena, and the lines were down to about 30 folks per each of the 5 lines. So I parked my Honey in the shade, and 45 minutes later I got our refund...but no Cirque...but we had a lovely day in Victoria...and took the Coho ferry back the next morning...

Walking on to the ferry...here is the bow, the Inner Harbour and the Empress in the back...

In the Inner Harbour were 2 of our local masted wooden sailing ships...the Adventurer and the Hawaiian Chieftain...nose to nose with a super yacht...

And behind the Coho, the Victoria Clipper, a passenger only high speed catamaran ferry that takes folks from Seattle to Victoria, BC twice a day....

And because a post NEEDS something about tea, we had dinner with a dear friend at an Indian restaurant in Vancouver, BC recently. She was new to Indian, which we love, and ordered dessert. John had Chai Creme Brulee and my friend and I both decided to order what was listed on the menu as Made In House Macaroons...which is different for an Indian restaurant, so we ordered and got...macarons! I had Mighty Leaf tea with it....lovely!

So that's our adventure. We enjoyed our overnight, even though not as expected!

  1. How disappointing that they had to cancel the Cirque show! It looks like you had a great time doing other things though. Victoria is so beautiful.

  2. Sounds like a fabulous trip. You have a wonderful narrative voice. I think you could make a trip to a big box store sound like a fun time.

  3. Okay ...except for the canceled show! I forgot all about that once you started talking dessert.

  4. Looks like a fun time, other than the cancellation of the show. Too bad about that. A beautiful day in a beautiful city though.
