Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Blog Giveaway winner, Happy Birthday Jane and Odds and Ends For Christmas

Hi and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea, although I may or may not be close to a computer to do comments much this week...along with most of you blogging friends!

Because of the time of year, this last weekend started the wonderful steamroller for Christmas with shows, friends, baking...you know. But first...my teacup ia another design called Noel, but by Queen Anne from the 1950s with enamel poinsettias. Certainly invokes the Christmas Spirit...

It's perfect with some of the wonderful holiday teas. I think I mentioned, my current favorite is Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride by Celestial Seasonings...

I have a lot to share today, so I'll move along...Congratulations to Judith of Lavender Cottage at Lavender Cottage who's comment was drawn by Random.org as the winner of my Part 2 7th Blog Anniversary Drawing. Congratulations to Judith. It's funny, because the winner of the drawing for Part 1 was Lavender Dreams...but speaking of Judith...

Judith shared this half moon Merry Christmas wooden half moon she painted in the 1970s, and I had to laugh, because I did one too! And Here is mine...

They were obviously popular then...Thanks to Judith, I got it out from it's dwelling place in the back of the closet and it is now hung...looks like it needs a straightening up...lol!

I want to also wish a Happy Birthday to Jane Austen who was born on Dec. 16th, 1775.

The image above is the colored version of her pencil self portrait.  2013 has also been the 200th anniversary of the publishing of Pride And Prejudice. I often wonder what she would think of the legion of fans her works have.  Below in the 10 pound note released in her honour this year...

Another reason to visit the UK and bring home a portrait of Jane....

I'm sure you are super busy this week as well. As well as meeting with friends and family, visiting and having out of town visitors, we are taking time for the wonderful concerts, Christmas programs and plays.

We went to our church program was Friday evening.

Last night we went to the annual concert for the Peninsula Men's Gospel Singers. Who have, been around for 12 years, and thanks to director Michael Stephen Rivers have an incredible tightness and energy that is a joy for this former choir director to heart, as well as an incredible heart for God. It really welcomed the Christmas season with joy!

Later today we are attending the Celtic Christmas Celebration with Geoffrey Castle and Cirque du Soleil type performers, which will be fun!

On Tuesday, we are in Seattle for the ACT production of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens...if it's around anywhere close, we go see it...and if not...

There's the George C. Scott version...here with Michael Redgrave as the Ghost Od Christmas Past....or...

The musical version Scrooge with Albert Finney and probably our favorite version....

The later this week it's Seattle again for Oliver! the musical version of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, at the 5th Avenue theater in Seattle...
which includes a friend from here in Sequim in a dual role....

Below is our local actor Carol Swabrick Dries in one of her roles as Mrs. Sowerberry....

Oliver! is close to my heart, because I was a professional actor/singer in a repertory company, the Harry Zevin Company, in the late 1960s right out of high school and was privileged to perform in a traveling production with Georgia Brown who originated the role of Nancy on the London West End and on Broadway. I was just chorus, and my Covent Garden part was the strawberry vendor...did quite a few different musical shows for a few years...but that's another story for a different time....

So, with a glimpse of a fairy tale gingerbread carriage from My Little Bakery,
That's a wrap for today...so much, so little time. I'll be in and out...mostly out it seems, over the next 2 weeks, so will be slow at commenting and visiting and posting. I may try scheduling a post...I've never done that!

So visit the wonderful blogs and have a wonderful Christmas!

  8. Hi Ruth, I enjoyed this post and think your Queen Anne teacup is very pretty and Christmas-y. There are certainly lots of activities going on in your area to enjoy this holiday season. It is interesting to learn of your acting/singing days many years ago and I can see why you enjoy stage productions so much. I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas season. Blessings, Pamela
