Spode Monticello Grapevine Teacup, Mysteries Set At Monticello

Hello and welcome to my post for Thursday, when I join Teacup Thursday, Vintage Thingie Thusrday and Share Your Cup Thursday. The links are at the bottom of the post.

The graphic below is from the Cottage Journal, which is published by the Hoffman Publishers who create Victoria, Tea Time Magazine and many more.

Fall is certainly here in the Pacific Northwest...the fleeces are on again, and I put the flannel sheets on this week. Now that's cozy!  Fall made me think of all the harvest things going on. The area here is trying to develop a reputation as a vinoculture area, so it made me remember this Spode, England teacup with the title Monticello Vines with a pattern of a grapevine around the cup and saucer.  A local winery, Olympic Cellars Winery is having a grape stomp this weekend....

Although this cup and saucer was made in the 1970s, the pattern itself is almost 150 years old and was designed to honor Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia Monticello which is famed for it's grape arbors. To visit Thomas Jefferson's Monticello website, click HERE.

I like English cozy mysteries, and sometimes US based ones as well. I have recently read to with a Monticello theme that I really enjoyed by favorite authors:

Murder At Monticello by Jane Langton, a Professor Homer Kelly mystery. and also  another with the same title:

Murder At Monticello by Rita Mae and Sneaky Pie Brown (who is a cat), a Harry and Mrs. Murphy the cat mystery. Both mysteries are partially set at Monticello itself with great history and description of parts of Monticello, and I very much enjoyed both of them!  For more info on either book, click on the photos.

So there you have it...a Thursday teacup and some great topical mysteries. I read on my afternoon tea break in the sunroom. What joy! A goodie, my honey, a cup of fragrant tea and the cat stretched out somewhere close and in the sun if possible. That's real bliss! Have a great day and don't forget to visit the marvelous blogs below:
