Tuesday Cuppa Tea, American Beauty, Tea At Port Gamble

Hi there and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea! I am writing this as my Honey is in the front room watching the Super Bowl and rooting for the Seattle Seahawks...our local team....

I got that info in my last short Super Bowl post, so now on to what is more interesting to me....tea, teacups and having tea with friends!

I chose for this week a Royal Albert American Beauty rose design...I just love this cup and saucer...it is just lush and ...well...beautiful!

The cup and saucer is a 1940s pattern...although it was made later for a few years in the 1960s again, but with a different mark. This is with the brushed gold trim, which is considered a more upscale version of the pattern...as it was also made with just a gold line trim. The brushed gold is more labor intensive. Wouldn't tea taste even more delightful in this cup?!

The reason I chose this teacup is because it reminded me...sort of...of the teacups at The Tea Room At Port Gamble where a bunch of us had tea last week. The town was built in 1853, pretty much for the lumber trade...Washington state having lots of forests...and was the site of the oldest continuously operating sawmill in North America.

Now it's on the National Register of Historic Towns, very quiet and a lovely place for a day out for us, about an hour from Sequim....

The tea room is in an historic home on the mains street of town....

This is the owner, Janis...who has had the tea room for 8 years and does a wonderful job!

Our group of 18 were seated at tables of 2 or 4....and if 4...which was the case of our table...had a choice of 2 pots of different teas from their extensive tea menu of about 25 choices of black, green, white, decaf black and fruit teas....we had black Snow Monkey Plum tea and a decaf black Northwest Fruit Blend.

We had their Chocolate High Tea....

Which consisted of...
Tea Sandwiches...
Smoked locally caught fresh salmon with caper spread on 9 grain bread
English cucumber with cream cheese and dill on white
Cotswold cheese with sliced Roma tomatoes on light rye

Scones...
a choice of lemon or cranberry pecan with Devonshire cream and homemade strawberry jam

we all had the latter, and my Honey and I split one and took one home...which, as you can see, filled the 6 inch bread plate...and is one of the best scones ever

Desserts...
cream puffs with strawberry cream filling
a Tea Room chocolate truffle
chocolate fondue with various fruit pieces to dip in dark, milk and white chocolate with fondue forks....which I forgot to photograph!

If you didn't like the truffle that had been randomly selected for you, you could exchange it for your choice from the truffle counter....

Then we took a....needed....constitutional around the town to work some of our scrumptious tea off....the angel was in the front of a bookstore and the grapevine, still dormant in another front yard...

The General Store has a museum, a very good cafe and lots of fun things...one of which I got for an upcoming giveaway...stay tuned...

This is an old Victorian that we are quite fond of in town...it has lovely views over the harbor, has a wonderful gingerbread veranda and has been several different things, but none have succeeded in the long term. It needs TLC and, unfortunately, quite a bit of cash to bring it to it's former glory....

And the water towers that are really symbolic of the town...love these!

So, there you go! Glad you came to tea with me! Below are some of the blog parties, and the linky for your tea related posts...remember it is SSLLOOOOOWWWW...so you must be patient! But it does show up! Have a great week!

  1. Hello Ruth,
What a wonderful tour. The food looked delicious at the Tea Room and I know you all enjoyed yourselves. I love American Beauty! I thought I had the set until I got it home and discovered that I only had the saucer with a look alike cup. I was so disappointed! So I'm still looking for either a cup or the whole set. Yours is gorgeous and I love the brushed on gold. Have a beautiful day.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  25. Hello from southern California. I loved reading your post about Port Gamble. I'm from Gig Harbor and I discovered Port Gamble a few years ago on my way to Poulsbo. It's a lovely city. It reminded me of a New England town. It's really a unique place in Washington. I so enjoyed your lovely photos. And, I miss my beautiful home state of Washington!
