Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Shelley Duchess Teacup

Hello and welcome to June's second Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

IT is definitely warmer and lighter these days...so nice! But...the cottonwood are "snowing" so my allergies are still not good. But...there is still so much to enjoy in life, I can only be grateful for every day!

Today, I had a new tea to try in a new teacup! I recently acquired a Shelley China, England teacup collection, and found Yorkshire Tea...at our local Grocery Outlet, much to my surprise!

The Shelley teacup is in the Gainsborough shape, one of my favorites, as I think it is so elegant and feminine!

The pattern is called Duchess and this is the maroon version...called colorway...as it came in several different colors....

This edition of the Duchess Gainsborough teacup is pattern number 13401, and the pattern books says it was made on and off from 1940 to 1966 when the pottery closed.  I love the classical scrolling and the pretty floral bouquets....

I do love Shelley...they are such wonderful examples of holdable art!

Not to mention a great teacup!  The Yorkshire tea has a nice medium bodied traditional English Breakfast style tea with a reddish tone. Not maybe as complex as some, but very drinkable. I was certainly surprised to find it in a discount shop!

This weekend, Queen Elizabeth II and Philip are in France for a state visit corresponding with the anniversary of the D-Day Landing assault of World War II. I just loved this photo of the couple.  They will have been married 67 years in November....a great accomplishment. Our 40 is a bit behind their mark....

A rather simple Tuesday Cuppa Tea this week...can't wait for pollen season to be over! For more info on the teacup at Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.

Below, please find the linky. It tends to take it's time showing up, so be patient. I would love for you to link your teatime posts and I always love your wonderful comments. Have a great week!

  2. Ruth, I am so sorry you are still having trouble with allergies! I know you have a thankful heart but I also know how miserable those allergies can be. Feel better soon.
I love your Duchess teacup; she's a beauty! Shelley really does make beautiful teacups. Your tea sounds interesting too. Thanks for joining me for tea today.

  3. Hi Ruth,
Your Shelley teacup today is so rich a colour and very elegant. I have a two burgandy teacups, one is an Aynsley and the other is a Shelley but a different shape. You must have the largest collection of Shelley teacups! So gorgeous! I think that your 40 years of marriage is something to be proud of too! Thanks for hosting Tuesday Cuppa Tea!
    Happy June! Karen

  5. How wonderful that you have a new collection of Shelley! The pattern Duchess is one of my favorites. I have this pattern which I bought at an antique show! The set has 6 cups and 6 salads but no saucers and the price was $100. I love it but keep thinking I will find the saucers one day for I'm lucky sometimes! Have a great week!

  9. Hi Ruth, that's a very pretty teacup indeed! The cottonwood seeds have just recently finished here on the Plains. Some of the cottonwoods in the area have died (cottonwood bore?). I like the way the Queen is smiling at her Prince. Thanks for sharing such beautiful "holdable art"! I will think of that every time I hold a pretty cup now. Blessings, Bess

  12. Your Shelley is gorgeous. And there isn't much cuter than The Queen Mum smiling at her mate. They are so dashing. 67 years is amazing. God bless them both.

    Thank you for hosting.

  13. I hope you're feeling better soon ! ( like today ) I have been watching the cottonweed seed float around here looking very much like snow. My sheep run to catch it as it falls, and they eat the fluff. I have seen swallows also catch it mid-air.

The Shelley teacup is so pretty but I appreciate even more the history I read in your posts. Thank-you !
