Pink Chintz Teacup, My Grandfather's Artist Model Gertrude

Hi there and happy Thursday! I am joining Vintage Thingie Thursday with Colorado Lady, Share Your Cup Thursday with Mrs. Olson and Pink Saturday with How Sweet The Sound.  I'll start with the Pink Saturday first....a pink chintz teacup by Rosina, England from the 1950s. I just love this pattern and the pretty pink chintz. As this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's the color that represents that.

For more info on the teacup at Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.

Meet Gertrude. Gertrude is the artist's model that my grandfather, a listed artist used. He painted the backgrounds for the Museum Of Natural History in San Francisco for the animal exhibits. He also did some portraits, but mostly landscapes. He painted the face in the 1920s for my aunt, his only daughter, because she played in his studio as he worked.   Gertrude was hand made in Italy in the late Victorian or Edwardian era, around 1900-1910. If you look closely you can see the wooden pegs she was assembled with.

I was an art minor at University and used Gertrude in my owl life classes and sculpture classes. Quite fun! Antique artist's models are very collectible. She has actually joined the artist's model collection of one of the buyers/designers in England for Anthropologie, so she now has lots of company.  I think that's a Vintage Thingie...don't you????

  2. Autumn Blessings.... I'm admiring your lovely " Rosina" set ...It quite like something you could create a sweet nosegay in...and so appropriate for the Breast Cancer awareness....I'm sure "Gertrude" approves too...Your fabulous family memorabilia has so much well used character...You can tell that she has been the center of attention for many years. The newer models are no half so nice as " Gertrude"...Lucky You...Thanks for sharing...Hugs

  4. Love that artist's model, and thank you for sharing such a special family piece! And I have long admired the pattern on your Rosina teacup. I've been thinking of buying a new Royal Albert one I saw at Macy's that features this exact same design!
